Diana is doing ok!

I felt nervous sending out interview questions this month. We’re in the middle of a global health crisis, a global financial crisis, and a near-complete shutdown of society. So…how’s your college search? But I also want to know that these seniors, who I’ve been checking in with since September, are doing ok. So far, I’ve heard from Diana, and she’s fine. She’s still on track to head to college in the fall. The University of Oklahoma is her frontrunner, though Texas Tech is still in the running, and Texas A&M has decided that they want to be on her list too. Read the full interview below.

Meet the Class gets updated each month from September to May. Each installment features an interview about both the facts and the feelings of where the student is in the process.

Interviews may be edited lightly for clarity and grammar. Names may be changed to protect privacy.

Diana ATTENDS A Public HIGH SCHOOL IN Texas

How are you doing? Are you and your family well? How badly is the stay-at-home affecting you right now? Is college this fall still your plan, or have things changed too drastically?

It’s been weird to say the least. Disappointed about prom and graduation because those were the two events I was most looking forward to all 13 years of school. I’m doing okay, going a little stir crazy, but overall okay. College is still the plan if things clear up by then. The only new news is that I was accepted to Texas A&M after they further reviewed my application.

You were planning on a visit to OU. Did that happen? Have you done any "virtual tours" or visits?

I did visit OU over spring break. I love OU. I love everything about it. The visit over break really helped me narrow it down more. I withdrew my application from Baylor, and I’ve decided that it’s now down to Oklahoma and Texas Tech. I’m just waiting on my financial aid offer to come back from Oklahoma before I make the final decision.

Both the University of Oklahoma and Baylor have moved their reply and deposit dates from May 1 to June 1. Does that help you, or do you still plan to have a decision by the end of this month?

Since I withdrew my Baylor application that doesn’t really matter, but it helps a lot that Oklahoma moved the date.  I wish Tech would so that I could stress less, but it does help.

How is school going right now? Are you doing at-home assignments? Live meetings, through Zoom or something like that? How well is your high school handling the chaos?

School is weird. We’re doing an online program but only one of my classes is offered. As of right now, I join one zoom call a week for about 45 minutes. My dual credit classes are starting back up next week, so I’ll have English to keep me busy. In my opinion, my school isn’t handling it well at all. No one is really doing the online classes because they told us it wasn’t for a grade. A lot of the seniors are really upset about everything being cancelled so they decided to just not do it.

Anything else?

I’m just ready for this insanity to be over!!
