Bingo! I was accepted to all the...
As of this writing, it looks like five different high school seniors were accepted to all eight Ivy League schools this year.
And look, that's really impressive, I mean it. They should all be very proud. All the ivies are very selective. And these students were accepted to schools other than just those eight.
But...
I would advise against applying to all the ivies. They are all selective, and they all belong to the Ivy League (which, remember, is an athletic conference), but they are not all alike and interchangeable. While these teens get to be in the news and get celebrated, they still have to go through the process of choosing between at least eight very different programs and thinking about which is right for them. Because the thing is, no matter how many selective and impressive schools they get accepted to, they have to pick just one. The wise thing to do is begin that process before applying to so many schools.
And also...
Making such a big deal out of the arbitrary list of Ivy League schools seems slightly unfair to people who have other accomplishments that don't fit the "Bingo!" nature of hitting all the schools in that particular conference.
So...
If you were accepted to all of the schools in any of the dozens of other athletic conferences, Division 1 or not, I want to hear from you to celebrate you.
If you were accepted to at least five colleges with the same mascot (bonus if it's the same as your high school mascot!), I want to hear from you to celebrate you.
If you were accepted to all seven of the Seven Sisters, I want to hear from you to celebrate you.
If you were accepted to all of the Top 10 Party Schools, I want to hear from you to celebrate you (though celebrating won't be a problem for you).
If you were accepted to RISD, Parsons, SAIC, CalArts, SCAD, and Pratt, I want to hear from you to celebrate you.
If you were accepted to Northwestern, Northeastern, Southwestern, and Southeastern, I want to hear from you to celebrate you.
If you were accepted to all five of the Five College Consortium, I want to hear from you to celebrate you.
If you were accepted to all five of the undergrad Claremont Colleges, I want to hear from you to celebrate you.
[Update 4/14: Ariyana Davis, in Chicago, was accepted to 23 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Way to go Ariyana (though you still only get to go to one)!!!!]
And you know what? If you were only accepted to one school, but it's exactly the school you want and you'll be there next year with no regrets, I want to hear from you to celebrate you.
