For Three Quick Questions, I send the same three questions to admissions representatives at colleges all over the country (the subject line of the e-mail is “Three quick questions”), and then I hope to hear back from them. When I do, I’ll post them on Apply with Sanity. It’s that simple.
The three questions are meant to probe some of the things that make a school unique but that aren’t easily captured as a stat to go in a book or web search.
This response is from Alex Miller, Assistant Director of Admissions at Hawaii Pacific University.
What is a course, tradition, program or event that is unique to Hawaii Pacific University?
All programs and events at Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) reflect the Hawaiian concepts of aloha and ‘ohana, or family. Hawaiian culture is deeply rooted in the atmosphere and interactions at the downtown Honolulu campus. HPU is different - an urban campus in an international setting. Students experience things here that they won’t experience anywhere else in the world.
For our first-year students, the HoloHolo and Live Hawai‘i programs provide opportunities to explore the Hawaiian Islands through historical tours, live performances, and land and ocean adventures.
Naturally every college wants to recruit the perfect student--high grades, high test scores, involved in their community, leadership...everything. But what kinds of imperfect students tend to flourish at Hawaii Pacific?
The type of students who flourish at HPU are experiential learners. They look closer, see further, and do more. HPU students get excited about new experiences, people, and perspectives. If that sounds like you, you’ll fit right into the HPU ‘ohana. Voted the best university in the state of Hawai‘i, level-up your education at HPU.
When people come to visit Hawaii Pacific, what's a place off campus that you recommend they check out while they're there?
Lively Kaka‘ako is just steps away from Aloha Tower and Waterfront Plaza – HPU's urban Honolulu campus. HPU students find their own version of what makes Hawai‘i special, from local dining and social experiences to outdoor activities. Ask another student their favorite spots – or explore new places with friends!

Is there a school you’d like to hear from? Let me know, and I’ll make sure they get the questions.
Apply with Sanity doesn’t have ads or annoying pop-ups. It doesn’t share user data, sell user data, or even track personal data. It doesn’t do anything to “monetize” you. You’re nothing but a reader to me, and that means everything to me.
