Who doesn’t love it when a great plan comes together for success? Grace’s admissions season is complete, and she’s very happy about where she’s going next fall. Read all about it below, and read each month’s interview since September here.
Grace is getting close
Now is the part of admissions season when we really get into horse racing analogies. Grace is in the final stretch before making a college decision before May 1st. Hofstra and Fordham are neck and neck, and it’s going to go down to the wire. Or will a dark horse longshot suddenly get her attention? Read the full interview below.
Grace is still waiting
Grace has kept herself busy. She’s preparing for her last high school musical; she’s preparing for three AP exams; she’s getting lots of email, snail mail, and phone calls from colleges. However, it’s been a slow month in terms of moving her toward a decision about where she’ll be next year. Read the full interview below.
Grace is staying focused
Grace has got an acceptance and an scholarship from one of her top-choice colleges. She’s also waiting to hear back from another top-choice school. She’s got a few more acceptances as well. You might think Grace is relaxing and feeling pretty accomplished, but she knows there’s a few more months to go. Read the full interview below.
Grace has acceptances...and a scholarship!
Grace has good news!
Grace is feeling a little more relaxed these days. She sent out all her applications, and now she’s already got acceptances from two of them. Read about her “thick envelopes” and the rest of her month below. You can catch up on Grace’s earlier interviews here.
Grace sent out all her applications
Grace surprised me this month. I knew she planned to apply Early Action to a few of her top choice schools, but I also knew that she had a lot of extracurricular expectations with the school play. So I was not expecting to hear that she took the extra time to go ahead and just send out all 10 of her applications early. But that’s what she did, and she says it feels great. Meet the Class of 2019, Grace and Faulkner
Grace's final interview
When I first put out a call for seniors interested in letting me check in with them monthly, I got interest from all over the country. But the two who ultimately committed to it were classmates from my own city (I didn't know them prior to this). And now it seems they're going to be classmates next year, too! Read Grace's latest--and last--interview below.
Grace has chosen!
Grace has to deal with some bad news
Grace has good news!
Grace has time to reflect
You’d sent off all your applications by the beginning of December. Have you heard anything yet? I believe U of H has rolling admissions, but I don’t know how quickly things turn around during the holidays. Did you submit your CSS profile?
I haven't heard back from any schools yet :(. It's very nervewracking and I find myself checking my mailbox almost every day for a letter.
Grace is finished with applications!
When I talked to Grace in November, she was still trying to finish her applications. But by early December she'd hit the submit button seven times. Read the entire December interview with Grace below, and catch up with her past interviews here.
Grace and the really important questions
Checking in with Grace this month I was reminded of some important truths that colleges and parents should not neglect: a good overall program is more important than a particular major; geography is important; access to good Asian food is really important. Read the entire November interview with Grace below, and catch up with her past interviews here.
Checking in on Grace
Meet the Class is an opportunity for parents, educators, and admissions professionals to get a look at individual seniors and what they go through to find their college.
It’s updated each month from September to May. Each month will feature an interview about both the facts and the feelings of where the student is in the process.
Interviews may be edited lightly for clarity and grammar.
This is the second interview with Grace, who is having a very busy October. Grace is a senior in the Houston area. She attends a public magnet high school.
